HMF Project Management and Consultants Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to join our Pakistan engineering team and support our UK-based SCADA & Real Time Systems team on major SSEN Transmission and Distribution projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior SCADA professional to work directly on UK power utility projects, collaborating with experienced UK engineers and contributing from design through to testing and commissioning.
You will be a senior member of our Pakistan engineering team, responsible for producing SCADA designs, configurations and technical documentation for SSEN transmission and distribution projects led by our UK team. You will take ownership of defined engineering work packages, including SCADA architectures, IEC 61850 engineering, RTU and gateway configuration, network and OT cybersecurity design, and test documentation.
SCADA & system design
- Develop SCADA and substation automation architectures for transmission and distribution substations
- Design industrial communications networks, including LAN topology, VLANs, IP addressing and PRP/HSR/RSTP redundancy
- Develop OT cybersecurity controls, including network segmentation, firewall rules and secure remote access
Development & configuration
- Engineer IEC 61850 systems, including SCD, ICD and CID files, GOOSE and MMS
- Configure RTUs, gateways, bay controllers, station HMIs and protocol converters
- Work with IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3 and Modbus
- Build and maintain SCADA databases, HMI displays, alarm lists and control logic
- Work across major OEM platforms including Siemens, Hitachi Energy, ABB, GE Vernova, SEL and Schneider Electric
- Support FAT preparation and remote troubleshooting during SAT and commissioning
Documentation & engineering delivery
- Produce Functional Design Specifications, system architectures and network diagrams
- Prepare signal lists, points schedules, I/O schedules and IP address registers
- Develop FAT, SAT and point-to-point test procedures
- Maintain configuration files and documentation under version control
- Address technical review comments from the UK engineering team and clients
Essential experience
- 10+ years of SCADA design and development experience within power utilities, substations or utility-scale energy projects
- Strong understanding of SCADA design philosophies, control hierarchy, local/remote control, interlocking, redundancy and failover
- Hands-on IEC 61850 engineering experience
- Experience with IEC 60870-5-101/104 and DNP3
- Configuration experience across multiple SCADA/OEM platforms
- Strong industrial networking knowledge, including managed switches, VLANs, routing, PRP/HSR, RSTP and time synchronization
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity and IEC 62443 principles
- Strong technical documentation and engineering deliverables experience
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control or Computer Engineering
- Excellent written and spoken English and confidence working with UK-based engineering teams
Desirable experience
- Experience supporting UK projects, particularly SSEN or other UK network operators
- Multi-vendor system integration experience
- Familiarity with ENA technical specifications, NIS Regulations and the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework
- Fortinet or Palo Alto Networks experience
- Renewable and storage projects, including PV, BESS, wind and PPC interfaces
- Relevant vendor, networking or cybersecurity certifications
- Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) registration
Working arrangement
You will be based in one of our Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad offices, working as part of a UK-led project team. You will collaborate regularly with UK engineers through shared project tools, technical meetings and document-control systems, with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with UK working hours.
There may also be opportunities for occasional travel to the UK or OEM facilities for FAT or project mobilisation, subject to visa approval.
